Beth Van Fleet Celebrity Musical Playlist
Yes?
HansBeth is a friend. A great friend. A friend currently driving cross-country to Atlanta to begin a brand new phase of her life as Graduate Assistant Coach for her alma mater, Georgia State. Her musical taste is brilliant, therefore the request of this playlist was only natural. In fact, it should have come months ago. Don’t worry, I’ll link these jams to iTunes asap. In the meantime, feel free to read up on my last encounter with Ms. Van Fleet in the fine city of San Diego:...

Green Upset Chair Intervie...
Upsets are the name of the game these days on the AVP NIVEA Tour. I’m just fortunate enough to have a few green chairs and an HD Flip Cam to capture the personalities of the Tour’s best players post and pre-upset.
Mike Morrison — Following his first-round victory over the No. 3 seeds, Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena.
Ryan Mariano — Following his first-round contender’s...

LBC Recap Excerpt Pre-Edit...
Per the request of friends who read the Long Beach Recap pre-edit, I’m posting one original paragraph here that didn’t quite make the cut. Why it got hacked, I have no idea?
“Case in point: Sunday afternoon in Long Beach. Hyden and Scott start off serving Todd short and outside his body to take away his approach. Rogers seems noticeably bothered by their strategy and makes...

Passing Makes Perfect...
"Better the pass, better the set." -Karchy
Part three of the summer series for prepvolleyball.com
At the most recent Tour stop in Belmar, N.J., I directed an AVP Juniors Camp for 12 local children looking to learn a little something about the beach game. We started with passing, moved on to digging, threw out a little dialogue on the “ice-cream scooper” and the “flipper,” transitioned...

What Could Have Been...
Ringer in ‘96, piking on yet another ‘5′ ball at the University of Hawaii.
Part two of the summer series for prepvolleyball.com.
Watching YouTube’d University of Hawaii men’s volleyball highlights from 1997 does two things to me: 1) makes me incredibly nostalgic and 2) makes me wish I was healthy enough to throw on gym shoes, one contoured “non-bubble” kneepad (for show),...

Christal Morrison Celebrit...
My wife and I have a spare bedroom. It has relatively nice furniture. You know: suede couch, chair and ottoman, two lamps, bedside table, cast iron bedframe, Simmons Beautyrest mattress, decorative comforter with matching pillow cases, a flat-out seriously cool dark wood/cast iron leaning desk, Japanese screen…you get the drift. It’s very feng shui and basically just our old studio...

An Athlete’s Journey...
Each player's path to the podium on the sand is different; mine took even more turns than this column attempts to recount...
Part one of a six-part summer series for prepvolleyball.com.Every volleyball player’s journey to the beach is different. Most start in the gymnasium with a little six-on-six, where each athlete learns the specialized skills inherent with a particular position. Middles focus...

Stars...
No surprise here, just another band I happen to be in love with at the moment. Their videos are lacking the production value of say, Morrison or Mayer, but they’re creative and unique all the same. I’ve already purchased “This Charming Man,” “Ageless Beauty” and “Take Me to the Riot,” but “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead” was the first jam of theirs...

French Navy...
And I’m back. It only took one day apparently. I feel like I should really be living in the city or something, where seasons actually change, striped sweaters are the norm and train stations double as places to “hang out.” Possibly Paris in the fall to get swept away, or to levitate, or to sing with rapture and dance like a dervish…
